The fourteenth installment in the Final Fantasy series, Final Fantasy XIV for PC is set for release on September 2010. Square Enix (game developer) has announced that the Final Fantasy XIV "Collector Edition" for PC is set for release on 22nd September 2010, while the "Standard Edition" SKU is date for 30th September 2010. The PlayStation 3 version is set for release on March 2011.
Previously codenamed Raptured, Final Fantasy XIV MMORPG development was known by public when Hiromichi Tanaka, producer of the Final Fantasy XI, announcing that the game was being developed for PC and Xbox 360, and might also be brought to the PlayStation 3. However, Final Fantasy XIV development for XBox 360 was declined because Xbox Live system is different to the normal internet environment. So they choose PS3 platform as it has the same environment as Windows PC.
Other reason why Square Enix couldn't go to develop Final Fantasy XIV for XBox 360 was because they couldn't come to an agreement with Microsoft, since Microsoft want to have a closed environment for Xbox Live.
Final Fantasy XIV Plot
Final Fantasy XIV game takes place in a fictional land called Hydaelyn in a region named Eorzea. Eorzeans used to be at war with each other until the Garlean Empire razed Ala Mhigo, the mightiest of the city-states. Eorzean nations then band together to repel the invaders, but the Empire never came, leaving a state of détente throughout the land. The resulting peace has led to a wide swath of soldiers and mercenaries suddenly without a job, and so they're now forming guilds and going by a new name: adventurers.
There are five playable races in Final Fantasy XIV: Hyur, Elezen, Lalafell, Roegadyn, and Miqo'te. The Classes (named “disciplines”) in FF XIV will be divided up in to 4 Disciplines: disciples of war, disciples of magic, disciples of the land, and discilpes of the hand.
